    FREUDWERK

design by the carpenter next door

As a carpenter and designer, Matthias Scherzinger presents his designs at international exhibitions and has received prizes for them, including the red dot design award. He manufactures the furniture for his FREUDWERK label in his workshop using local wood from the Glottertäler forests. This results in objects of timeless elegance and maximum functionality. You will find the "Tibalt" stool and side table in many of our hotel rooms, where it replaces three conventional pieces of furniture. Sophisticated design, impeccable function and sustainable use of resources: a perfect match for our lean luxury concept.

Tibalt as a stool: Nice to seat you! - Hotel Schloßmühle

    Matthias Scherzinger

    Carpenter and designer

Matthias Scherzinger and his label freudwerk are based just a few meters away from the schlossmühle - in Sägeweg, on the other side of the Glotter. The wood he processes also comes from the close surroundings.

    Tibalt as a side table

    Always at your side.

The simple, fascinating piece of furniture "Tibalt" is light as a feather and follows you flexibly wherever you need it. In our hotel rooms, for example, it doubles as a bedside table and side table in the seating area. Less is more - and more sustainable.

    Tibalt as a stool

    Nice to seat you!

Need to sit down at your desk for a few minutes despite being on vacation? No problem - thanks to its seat height, Tibalt is also perfect as a stool. And afterwards it blends back into the room as a table without wasting space.

    vitra

Design classics made in weil am rhein

The vitra campus in Weil am Rhein not only is the home of the world-famous classics of furniture design by Charles & Ray Eames, Verner Panton and Jean Prouve. Here you will also find an ensemble of buildings of unique architectural quality. Internationally celebrated architects such as Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando and Herzog & de Meuron have created masterpieces here.

The best way to discover the campus is on an architectural tour. Afterwards, a visit to the Schaudepot and vitra Design Museum is well recommended. You can get a sneak preview of vitra's world of design right in your hotel room.

vitra LAR: Charles & Ray Eames, 1950 - Hotel Schloßmühle

    vitra Toolbox RE

    Arik Levy, 2010

The toolbox is made from recycled plastic obtained from industrial waste and is itself 100% recyclable. You will find this practical storage tool on the desk in your hotel room, where we keep all kinds of small items and information for you.

    vitra Corniches

    Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2012

"Just as we simply hang our things on a ledge before jumping into the water, we also need small ways to store things in everyday life," says Ronan Bouroullec. That's why he designed the Corniches. You can find them as bedside tables in our hotel rooms.

    vitra LAR

    Charles & Ray Eames, 1950

The LAR is one of the most important furniture concepts in design history. It was first presented in 1948 as part of a competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Today, the armchair is manufactured very close to us, in Weil am Rhein in the three-country region. You can find the LARs in our rooms in the "indoor & outdoor /spacious" category, because thanks to the plastic shell and metal frame, you can also take it outside.

    schlossmühle originals

    Historical furniture, contemporary vibes

Preserving valuable things - that is part of our sustainable identity. That is why you will find many originals in the Schlossmühle that have been collected here over the past decades as a wine bar and inn. Unique craftsmanship tells its own story. Old wooden tavern chairs, elaborate carvings and art glass paintings - all of this has been integrated into our extraordinary interior design concept. The result is a unique combination of history and future - upcycling with passion.

Art glass elements: Windows became lights - Hotel Schloßmühle
Carvings: from counter to counter - Hotel Schloßmühle

    Art glass elements

    Windows became lights

The old mullioned windows had to be removed for energy reasons - but not the wonderful built-in art glass panes. These show seasonal scenes and the traditional costumes of the Black Forest communities. We therefore converted them into pendant lights for the hotel rooms and individually adapted the color concepts of the rooms to them.

    Carvings

    from counter to counter

The old tavern counter from the past of the schlossmühle is making a comeback: the carvings that used to adorn the tavern counter have been incorporated into the new concierge desk of our lean-luxury hotel. So the wooden figures can continue to greet arriving guests. They are already looking forward to seeing you!

    Rolf Benz

premium lounge furniture from the Black Forest

Innovative furniture from the Black Forest, created in collaboration with international designers and "100% made in Germany" - that's what Rolf Benz stands for. We couldn't have wished for a better partner to furnish the Schlossmühle.

That's why you'll be sitting on comfortable armchairs, sofas and poufs from "freistil Rolf Benz" in our hotel rooms. The wohnzimmer is our own little Rolf Benz showroom. Get cozy!

    This Weber Design

"The idea for the armchair came from the basic circular shape of a wooden wine barrel," explains designer This Weber. That's why you'll find these armchairs in our wohnzimmer - where the workshops used to be, where barrels for Glottertäler wine were produced.

    freistil 173

    Design Müller Wulff

"This calm, friendly companion should make its owner smile from time to time," say designers Thomas Müller and Jörg Wulff. To make sure you start your vacation day with a smile, we have equipped the rooms in our "heritage" category with this friendly "gummy bear" armchair. Incredibly comfortable!

    freistil 132

    Yonoh Studio

The designers of this sofa work in Valencia, but the technical know-how for its realization comes from the Black Forest - as does the finished sofa, of course. A convincing example of cosmopolitanism despite local sourcing. The freistil 132 forms the cozy center of our wohnzimmer where it invites you to retreat around the clock.
