With Freiburg, Basel and Colmar, you can not only immerse yourself in the cultural diversity of three cities, but also three countries at the same time. You decide how much or how little you want to see and experience. We will help you plan the perfect cultural program for your vacation with us at the Schlossmühle.

    freiburg

    discover the green city

The studenty-alternative flair, the good weather, the little canals, the enchanting old town: how could you not love Freiburg? A day in Freiburg is definitely an essential part of your vacation with us at the Schlossmühle. A stroll through the historic center will take you past all the must-sees. A stop at Kanonenplatz on the Schlossberg is also recommended. Looking for insider tips off the beaten tourist track? Just get in touch with us - we'll be happy to share our favorite places with you.

Cathedral: The most beautiful church tower in all of Christianity - Hotel Schloßmühle
Theater der Immoralisten: A modern theater experience - Hotel Schloßmühle
Kanonenplatz: Viewpoint above the city - Hotel Schloßmühle

    Cathedral

The most beautiful church tower in all of Christianity

The cathedral is Freiburg's landmark and a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The best time to visit the cathedral is in the morning, because then you can also discover the cathedral market around it, which is well worth a visit - here you can find products from local farmers.

    Theater der Immoralisten

    A modern theater experience

The Theater der Immoralisten is located just outside the old town in the Stühlinger district. In a former industrial yard, between an organic restaurant and a ski manufactory, a small ensemble puts on modern performances. We think it's a particularly authentic piece of Freiburg.

    Kanonenplatz

    Viewpoint above the city

The Schlossberg rises directly behind the old town. A short, steep climb takes you up to Kanonenplatz. From here you have a perfect view over Freiburg. In summer, you can even enjoy it from the beer garden directly below.

    basel

    the swiss cultural hub

Basel is just under an hour away, also has a cathedral and yet is very different from Freiburg - the Swiss mentality makes all the difference. The journey is particularly worthwhile for art lovers, as the Basel Art Museum and the Fondation Beyeler are two first-class exhibition venues. Another highlight: the city's location directly on the banks of the Rhine - the Dreisam in Freiburg (almost) can't compete with this. Take the opportunity for some country hopping!

Basel Art Museum: World's oldest public art collection - Hotel Schloßmühle
Fondation Beyeler: Modern & contemporary - Hotel Schloßmühle
Rhine bank: Promenade in the city center - Hotel Schloßmühle

    Basel Art Museum

    World's oldest public art collection

Spread over three buildings - the main building, the new building and the contemporary building - the Basel Art Museum offers comprehensive collection presentations and changing exhibitions. The new building from 2016 is particularly worth a visit due to its architecture.

    Fondation Beyeler

    Modern & contemporary

Switzerland's largest private art museum welcomes you in a beautiful park in Riehen near Basel. Modern and contemporary art is presented in the museum building designed by Renzo Piano. An impressive extension is currently being built by architect Peter Zumthor.

    Rhine bank

    Promenade in the city center

The Rhine runs through Basel like a lifeline and turns the city center into a local recreation area. The Buvettes - small drinks kiosks with a garden restaurant - invite you to enjoy coffee and aperitifs right on the promenade. People watching is a pleasure here!

    colmar

    postcard idyll in Alsace

Colmar is also known as a fairytale town. We agree! It doesn't get much more picturesque than the alleyways of the old town between the winding half-timbered houses or along the canal in "Little Venice". A visit to the Unterlinden Museum and the Marché couvert are simply a must. See for yourself - this Alsace highlight is just an hour's drive from the Schlossmühle.

Little Venice: Picturesque canals and half-timbered houses - Hotel Schloßmühle
Unterlindenmuseum: Isenheim altar and modern architecture - Hotel Schloßmühle
Marché couvert: Historical market hall - Hotel Schloßmühle

    Little Venice

    Picturesque canals and half-timbered houses

The Krutenau district is known as Colmar's "Little Venice" due to its charming canals and colorful facades. There are many cafés and restaurants here. The best photo spot is on the Quai de la Poissionierie.

    Unterlindenmuseum

    Isenheim altar and modern architecture

The Unterlinden Museum is not only home to the famous Isenheim Altar by Matthias Grünewald, but has also been an attraction in its own right since the extension and restoration by architects Herzog & de Meuron.

It is well worth a visit!

    Marché couvert

    Historical market hall

In the market hall, which dates back to 1865, you will find fish, meat and cheese from the region. Wine is also on offer - you can enjoy it on the spot in the market hall's cozy seating areas. You will find the Marché Couvert directly in Little Venice.
